reflexology

what is reflexology

Reflexology is a specialised form of massage applied to reflex areas on the feet or hands which helps restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourages the body to heal itself.
Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology helps to remove these blockages.
Reflexology is also a deeply relaxing and detoxifying treatment. It can be effective for a wide range of conditions but can also be preventative by strengthening all of the body’s systems.

The gentle accesability of reflexology make it an ideal complementary therapy for children. All they need to bring along are their feet for a  calming, fun and energising treatment.
It can help balance and centre the most exuberant toddler and introduce them to deep relaxation.
The skills are easily learnt allowing the benefits of the treatment to be maintained at home.

Here are some conditions which respond well to reflexology

excema                      asthma               constipation/ diarrhoea            insomnia

anxiety                       hyper activity     ear/eye infections                      colic

influenza/colds         lack of appetite

what to expect

A reflexology treatment lasts for about 1 hour. You will be made comfortable on a reclining chair, treatment couch or a footstool may be used. Your feet will be cleansed at the start of the treatment and then a variety of reflexology techniques will be used, adapted to suit your individual needs.
During the treatment a deep state of relaxation is likely to be induced.
One treatment is deeply relaxing, rebalancing and detoxifying, but 4-6 sessions may be recommended to treat a particular condition.

what do I need to wear

As it is just the feet or hands that are being worked on, you remain fully clothed; simply removing shoes and socks.
